Project Management Services and Cost Engineering
Program and Project Management
The Project Management Institute (PMI) defines project management as "the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a particular project." It is the art of prioritizing, directing, and coordinating human and material resources through the life of a project using modern management techniques to achieve predetermined objectives of scope, cost, time, quality, and participant and stakeholder satisfaction.
Detailed planning and the involvement of a PT&C cost engineering team throughout the program or project design ensures success. We assess the lifecycle of each project and determine its potential impact on the rest of the program. By viewing programs as integrated business units rather than individual projects, our program managers can consistently and methodically define, coordinate, standardize, and manage the lifecycle of multiple projects all at once.
PT&C's approach to project management involves controlling costs, controlling the scope and schedule, and assuring quality throughout the life of the project or program.
Cost Management
Our senior cost engineers participate in the program from its inception, evaluating financial considerations from the planning phase through close-out. We work with the client to ensure the program budget is based on accurate funding estimates and expected program costs. Our estimators and schedulers work together to anticipate when program milestones will be met, and what monies will be coming in and going out as a result. In addition, we regularly conduct risk and cost analyses to determine the probability that a project or effort will stay within budget.
Scope and Schedule Management
Even a seemingly minor change in schedule or scope can cause a domino effect in other project elements. We can ensure that changes in the schedule or scope don't result in unnecessary delays to the project. Our approach starts with an understanding of the client's scope of work, an appreciation of the technology involved, and the selection of the appropriate scheduling platform. Our schedulers and planners then produce multiple schedules that maximize the efficiency of the project's resources.
Quality Assurance
As a project-centric organization, we approach quality by ensuring that the project scope, including the definition of quality standards and check points, is well defined, documented, and communicated to the project team. Our team anticipates potential quality issues, incorporates contingencies into the planning process, performs independent quality assurance reviews, and validates all scope, cost, risk, and schedule submittals.
